XSci covered in Research Information

Research Information, the news and analysis title for publishers, librarians and researchers, has reported on the launch of XSci and the XSci Open Review Competition 2026.

The article covers how XSci adds a trust, or certification, layer to preprints. Authors post for free with a DOI, can have their work assessed by named AI reviewers, and can request paid review from a human expert. Papers the human expert certifies carry the XSci Peer-Certified mark.

The article quotes Dr Jeffrey Poon, our Publishing and Editorial Director:

“Science has never produced so much, and never checked so little of it. The bottleneck has moved. It is no longer hard to produce a paper. It is hard to know which papers to trust. We think the answer is not to slow production down but to bring the checking up to speed, and to do it in the open.”

He called the competition the first public test of AI review against real papers at any scale, one where any failure will be visible. To that end, we will publish how papers were selected, a breakdown of entries and awards by discipline, and where the process fell short.

XSci Open Review Competition 2026

We pay for 100 papers to be reviewed by a human expert, and every paper the expert certifies earns its author $500. Up to 60 places go to strong entries as they arrive, so earlier is better. Entries close on 30 November.
